Clara the teenager would be dumbfounded to see Clara the CrossFit Coach. I was a fencer for almost 10 years, but I would show up late on purpose so I could avoid doing conditioning.
I first found CrossFit in 2012 during my sophomore year of college as I was reluctantly researching nutrition and weight loss – I had gained almost 40lb of unwanted weight. I began in my school gym by myself and quickly found I wasn’t able to do one pushup. In that moment, you can either say “this clearly isn’t for me”, or you can say “well I should really be able to do a pushup!”
After 6 months or so of training on my own the extra weight melted away, and I was in disbelief at how sick I had felt and not even realized it. I then wondered if most people would ever know how amazing they can feel. Because of this, I knew I wanted to be a coach the moment I knew I wanted to be a CrossFitter.
I went to a Level 1 Seminar in 2013, joined my first box, and began coaching two years later. I went from being a lazy fencer to being recruited to my college lacrosse team where I played defensive mid for two years. In 2018 I received my L2, which stoked the coaching fire even more.
While my full-time job is working as a space systems engineer, my part-time love is having the honor of being on the CrossFit Old Fashion training staff.
